Haven't actully read it, but i had to weigh in on a point...

This was a far differant Golaith then the famous one. David slew the Golaith we all think of before he was King. By the time of 2 Samuel 21 he is alredy king. Therefore it is accurate. People do share the same names you know:> I know bunches of people who have mine.

II Samuel 21:19

II Samuel 21:19 in the New International Version (NIV)says that Elhanan, not David, killed the giant, Goliath. So does every other version of the Bible -- different Goliath; long after David slew the infamous giant.

Reasoned, responsive to reader's concerns, satisfying

Dr. Barker does a great job of justifying the NIV and some of its controversial renderings. He is kind to caustic reviewers and certainly shows me that he is a competent scholar. His explanations lead me to think better of the NIV, though at times his doctrinal biases slip through.
