This book, a collection of articles put into book form, embarks on a journey to unearth a forgotten narrative--a history of sustained resistance by Indigenous Black tribes against the relentless tide of white colonization in the Southeastern United States. For too long, the stories of the Yamasee, Gullah, Red Stick Creek, and Seminole nations have remained relegated to the margins of historical accounts, overshadowed by dominant narratives that often erase or minimize their agency and contributions. This omission is a significant disservice to a rich and complex history that fundamentally shaped the course of American development. Through meticulous research, drawing upon a broad spectrum of primary and secondary sources, including oral histories and archaeological findings, I aim to illuminate the interconnectedness of these seemingly disparate conflicts, revealing a sustained and formidable challenge to colonial power. My goal is not merely to recount events but to offer a nuanced understanding of the military strategies, political alliances, and social structures that enabled these communities to endure unimaginable hardships and resist for generations. This exploration seeks to foster a deeper appreciation for the resilience and determination of Indigenous peoples, to challenge traditional historical interpretations, and to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the lasting consequences of colonialism. The complexities and nuances of intertribal relationships, the strategic partnerships forged with escaped slaves, and the profound impact of these wars on both Indigenous and colonial societies will be explored, painting a richer and more accurate picture of the past.
