A body is found near the Small town of Cariboo, Washington in an irrigation canal that has been drained for the winter. Finding a murderer when you don't know who has been murdered presents a challenge that seventy-some year old sheriff's detective Harold (Hal) Halverson finds more interesting than staying home with his wife Shirley for the balance of their winter vacation. Hal receives help during his attempt at solving the case from some of the folks introduced in the authors previous book "509ers" as well as new characters that ad their own twists to the dialog.
