a fantastic thrift store find

I stumbled upon this book in -- of all places -- a thrift store in Australia. I was immediately smitten, and snatched up it, eager to show all my American friends this cool Australian book I found. Only later did I find out that book's authors -- Bridget Daly & Janet Skeels -- were fellow Americans, living & writing in the Seattle! This book is a delightful guilty pleasure. Mixing together a slew of vintage photographs of men with sharp & detailed flash fiction / short poems, this book is such a wonderful look into the female gaze. All the stories of all "100 boyfriends" are told from a female perspective, but from a variety of standpoints: some are funny, some are heartbreaking, some are angry, some are harrowing, but all of them feel utterly honest. It amazes me that this book was published in 1987! It feels so modern, like a product of the internet age: a proto-"POSTSECRET." I highly recommend this book for anyone who has been unsuccessfully unable to stop obsessing over an ex -- here are 100 new exes to add to your list!
