That's What You Get for Running with Scissors: Volume I a Collection of Short Stories

THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR RUNNING WITH SCISSORS are absolutely, truly fabricated distortions of choices women can make in relationships with other people (PARTICULARLY MEN). At times, WE, the People (WOMEN), in order to form a more perfect union of love, create the idea of what WE (WOMEN) want because of the potential WE (WOMEN) think we see. In fact, the whole purpose of this book is to make you laugh at how truly fabulous our (WOMEN) imaginations can go. I mean really, do WE (WOMEN) think that WE (WOMEN) can change people? The only thing WE (WOMEN) can change is our underwear and some people (NASTY WOMEN) don't like doing that. WE (WOMEN) adapt to situations but it does not change who WE (WOMEN) really are.

The women in each story are people that can be recognized. Either you are one of the women or you know someone like one of the women. These women are NOT, I repeat, NOT VICTIMS. They are just people who are not totally in touch with reality due to temporary insanity caused by some outside entity that creates the illusion of love. There is no MALE BASHING in this book. All the men in the book presented themselves with honesty. They give each woman an opportunity to make mindful choices about how totally jacked up they are. (.was that a male bash? NO )

Driven by lust and control, each woman forgets the advice given by our mothers and grandmothers that you CAN really get hurt by running with scissors. Applied to real life situations and see the warning signs. And if you still decide to run with scissors, well, then.that's what you get

Infidels? This collection of short stories will make you believe it

Toniwo the author is an inspiration to us all. Her enthusiasm for performing her poetry on stage abounds with encouragement to others to find their 'voice' as poets and writers. The book is a collection of short stories about relationships, infidels and lessons learnt. Some are quirky yet bitter-sweet stories of men who cheat on their girlfriends or wives and have no qualms about these `other' relationships or extra-marital trysts, written in the dialogue form to have you `wagging' your finger at some imaginary culprit, in the voice of the wronged party, hair and nails spruced up. Humour and poignancy combined, the author gets across to the readers that men will always be infidels, whether the girlfriends, partners, wives are partly to blame or not. Even internet dates can be revealing - for you never know who you could be meeting: A convict? A scammer? Each tale has a moral to it and that is: be aware, be very aware - or you could end up hurt and alone. The characters go through a series of emotions, from feeling secure to insecure, angry and stunned as well as bereft of love and faith in their partners; their pain showing through their actions and belligerent `nature' - some will have you rooting for them whilst others will have you `tut tutting' at their mistakes, made time and again. Others will make you wonder and look in bewilderment at some of the choices made. Some will make you squirm in your seat as you read of the goings on and robustness of the `fights' which take place over the one `guy', who gets away with `murder' many times over, despite their lack of support or sympathy with the ones wronged, partially or wholly. We capture a brief but revealing glimpse at how the men in these women's lives feel: indignation at their 'sluttish' ways; lack of enthusiasm reflected in their nonchalance towards their ever-perfect appearance and lifestyle, showing that certain feminine primness and the need to constantly 'beautify' the self; a degrading feeling of powerlessness as the women become over-suspicious and 'stalk-like' through developing that jealous streak in them which distorts their judgement; consequently like some possessed, over-pruned detective, they follow their men's trails assiduously and at times without remorse. It's a good read and one which you'll find written with a sense of precaution, sarcasm at times and humour in places. The author clearly sets out to make us reflect on relationships and how they can ruin our lives to a large extent, if we don't exercise prudence.

that's what you get....

Great Short Stories!

Toniwo's short stories were very "real" in That's What You Get For Running With Scissors. These stories were great, some were extremely funny, and some were really sad. I enjoyed reading each story so much, that I did not want to put the book down until I was done. There were a few grammatical errors, but it did not take away from the creative mind that wrote this book. I am looking forward to Volume II, this is a must read!

(RAW Rating: 3.5) - You should have listened to mama...

Do you remember your mom telling you not to run with scissors because you might get hurt? In her short story collection, THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR RUNNING WITH SCISSORS, Toniwo gives readers a look at different women and their relationships. The stories are sad, but a true representation of women who devalue themselves for the love they perceive to have for a man. There are 17 stories of women taking the wrong road to finding love. The compilation begins with "Stupid Is What Stupid Does," about a young woman in a relationship with a guy, who in turn is seeing someone else. When the young lady doesn't hear from him and he finally contacts her to explain, she accepts his excuse only to realize her "man" is now married to the woman she caught him with in the first place. In "Friends With Benefits" the woman falls for a guy who is the opposite of the men she usually dates, but she finds out too late that he is extremely jealous and will do anything to keep her, including filing criminal charges against her. The other stories include relationships with co-workers, preachers, ex-cons, infidelity and a host of other scenarios. THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR RUNNING WITH SCISSORS has a story for almost any kind of bad relationship drama you can think of. The women fall for men who hurt them in the end. Although they see the signs to be wary of, they seem to desperately want to be in love, no matter the consequence. Although some of the situations had humourous moments, they did make you think, because if we cannot relate personally to the particular circumstance, we know friends, male and female, who have. The stories were too real and will have you evaluating your own previous relationships. The collection is thought-provoking, insightful and honest. There were a few grammatical errors, but an overall well-done compilation. Reviewed by Cashana Seals of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers
