This book is a smorgasbord of mostly short stories about growing up in a small southern town during the depression with all the trials and tribulations, and fun along the way. Many of the stories are humorous and include many people that influenced my life. The emphasis is on how my generation saw more changes than all the previous generations combined. How I was able to fulfill my dream of being a dentist with very little money. How my conservative philosophy developed as a result of government being limited. Part two of the book deals with government, its proper role, and how our federal government has grossly disobeyed our Constitution and details our worst enemies of freedom. This publication is really two books in one, incorporating both an autobiography of the author and his philosophy of life, as well as his political philosophy. It is a vivid glimpse of life and growing up in the rural South in the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.. Written with warmth and tenderness, the author has uncanny gift of detailed recall.Honest and charming, this collection of revelations is a realistic reminder of ones own childhood, for those who grew up during the Depression. For others it is delicate introduction to how life really was back then.Dr. Broadrick uses quite humor to make this a delightful and engaging tale, which not only provides an insight into his own personality, but a view of his political philosophy and how it was formed.A stanch conservative, he paints with careful detailed documentation, a disconcerting, if not a frightening, portrait of the past political events and intrigue which has led to the current status of our nation. I found this to be a fascinating book in part because it is written about a period of time in which I grew up, and by a man I love, admire, and respect; but also, because I believe it will stand on its own merit as a captivating and well-written story.By Dwight R. (Ronnie) Weathers, DDS, MSD
This is a fun book to read. The first part of this book is a light hearted chronicle of good man's early life. It's a great recounting of life within a loving family and of adventures with good friends and neighbors. It's a story of determination, hardwork, imagination and good humor. The second part of the book raises many questions about the role of big government and the frustrations that any self reliant person would experience from government intrusions in their life. It's easy to feel the author's pain with "Big Brother" when you consider the life he made for himself without the government's help.

If all Americans could read Dr Broadrick's book they would be motivated to help solve some of our social, political and spiritual problems...and, along the way, they will enjoy the journey. As a brilliant story teller, he held my interest and made his life story come alive on every page. Lots of sage advice from a life well lived.
Quick Review of "That's the Way It Was Back Then"

Dr. Broadrick describes in the first half of the book, the exciting experiences of growing up in a small Georgia town in the depression days of the thirties and forties. He describes the birth of the carpet industry from tufting techniques of ladies making homemade quilts to his town becoming the capital of a worldwide industry. You will find yourself reliving Lawson's development from Dalton gadabout to prominent Atlanta Dentist. Somewhere in midlife Dr. Broadrick had an epiphany ,an awakening in interest in the political affairs of America. He did not like the direction America was heading-toward Socialism and wanted to be active in changing it.He lucidly explains its causes, who responsible and what can and should be done about it by all citizens. The second half of his book describes his involvement in the political process and his activity in effecting change as an example to all of us. I highly recommend "That's Just the Way it Was...Back Then" to anyone interested in helping to turn our great country back to its birth-root--the Constitution. Charles W. Williams

The book Going To The Gradies is a fun story of a recent medical graduate being removed from a life in the suburbs to do his intern in an inner city and the culture shock that results. This is a most interesting read. Songs That Got Us Through WWII
