THE FIRST BOOK (NOW REVISED) BY THE RENOWNED CREATIONIST

Henry M. Morris (1918-2006) was probably the most famous of the "young earth" creationists (see his book, The Genesis Flood the Biblical Record and Its Scientific Implications), as well as one of the founders of the Creation Research Society and the Institute for Creation Research. However, his work on Creationism has tended to overshadow his earlier work on general Christian apologetics, beginning with this book, which was written in 1946, enlarged and republished in 1951 as The Bible and Modern Science, and was then republished under this title in 1978. He has also written other apologetics works such as Many Infallible Proofs: Evidences for the Christian Faith and The Bible Has the Answer. He states in the introduction to the revised edition, "(this book) was, so far as I know, the first book published since the Scopes trial in which a scientist from a secular university advocated recent special creation and a worldwide flood.... I have written more then 25 books since (TYMB)... but none has been more fruitful in terms of people won for the Lord." Here are some representative quotations from the book (about the first 60% of the book deals with Bible/Science issues): Concerning the Roman solidiers at the tomb of Jesus, he writes, "Of course, even if the soldiers of the watch WERE sleeping on duty, that very fact would have made it impossible for them to see the disciples steal the body; so no real proof could be offered." "The purpose of those stars that can be seen only through great telescopes can probably never be determined until after Christ's second coming." "Some people find it difficult to understand why God waited so many thousands of years after man's fall before revealing himself in Christ, and also profess concern for the souls of those millions who lived and died before Christ came. The solution to this problem is not clearly set forth in the Bible for the simple reason that it does not directly concern us today." "I cannot agree with those people who maintain that a just God could not send anyone into eternal punishment. There is no imaginable punishment that could adequately compensate for a knowing and deliberate rejection of the sinless Son of God who willingly and lovingly died for our sins."
