This novel attempts to take forward the democratic and progressive values portrayed by the legendary yesteryear Tamil novelist, Smt. Indumathy, to their logical conclusion. Published in 1977, Tharaiyil Irangum Vimanangal was a celebrated novel, later adapted as a serial on television.

There was wide criticism that Smt. Indumathy succeeded in correctly identifying the then-emerging values in the society but unfortunately reverted back to the old values. Of course, it is a novelty in Tamil literature to place one novel against another.
