Donald Crews is Gifted Illustrator/Author

Donald Crews has an instinctive gift of early childhood developmental needs and the wherewithal talent to produce books of imagination that teach and amuse young children and adults alike. Few can match his multitalented accomplishments. He has been a favorite of mine for over 25 years. His books for children are my choices for young children. I am a retired Children's Literature and Language Arts professor at Canisius College in the 70's and State University of New York at Buffalo in the late 60's.

What can THEY do with ten black dots?

Great for your Kindergarten classroom. The book is simply different illustrations of pics you can make with black dots. We use black circle stickers (very cheap) and give each child 10. The class book that follows is a hit in the classroom library!

Cute for learning to count

Very basic pictures which work wonderfully for my class of 3 year olds. It shows black dots creating many different pictures - eyes for a fox, wheels on a train, coins in a piggy bank; each page adds one more. Great for counting.

Ten Black Dots...

I have used this book for years. I lost my copy and am so glad to have it back! Children love to find and count all the dots. Then we make our our dot book!

Ten black dots that stir the imagination

This is a fun book for young children. With the large pictures and font, the book begs to be touched and held and read! It could be used to reinforce a math lesson on counting objects. Afterward, the teacher/parent could give each child ten black dots, crayons, and paper and have them use their imagination to see what they could make. I think every young child should have a chance to hear or read this book!
