Engrossing Romantic Suspense 4-1/2*

Potter sets the stage for an emotional roller coaster ride as Atlanta Observer investigative reporter Robin Stuart becomes embroiled in a story that can either make or break her newly resurrected journalism career. When three policemen are slain in a professionally staged gangland style assassination one of Robin's longtime informants lets slip just enough information that incriminates the deputy sheriff's office as being involved and possibly connected to a powerful gang called Hydra. FBI Agent Ben Taylor has no love for reporters who will write anything for a headline after having seen the damage it could do to the innocent. Robin Stuart is one reporter that has managed to slip under his skin, and he knows she can help him connect these murders to a Southern Mafia gang called Hydra. With no real way for the FBI to enter into the investigation Ben is ready to work Robin into revealing her source, but no matter how alluring Ben Taylor is Robin is determined to protect her heart, her integrity and her source! *** This was an engrossing romantic suspense read from an author who appears to have mastered several genres with crisp well-researched writing and thrilling storylines. In creating this plot Potter takes issue with the moral dilemma of protecting an informant at the risk of endangering the innocent. Additionally, she created multi-dimensional characters who each dealt with their own individual issues. Robin was a strong lead trying to make a come-back after a devastating accident that left her with both a physical impediment and a long battle to re-establish her promising journalism career. Ben, though divorced, was guilt-ridden over having failed his ex-wife in being emotionally closed off and not seeing that she had needed him before it was too late. Ben and Robin's attraction and romantic love story was built slowly as they both finally began to learn to trust. Secondary characters were all strategically placed and well developed to add to the suspense and from Robin's elderly neighbor, to provide some lighter moments.
