Baby's First Christmas by Cathy Gillen Thacker: The premise that bought this couple together was way too modern for my tastes, and it seemed more like an storyline on a daytime soap opera rather than a realistic situation. However, the redeeming factor was that Kate and Michael worked together in a spirit of cooperation to do what was best for the child, and in turn, it was best for themselves as wounds from past relationships healed, all in spite of the negativity and interference of their families. I applaud the author for not falling into the tiresome formula of presenting the protagonists as bickering adversaries who engage in tedious game-playing, for romantically building the up to the falling in love part, and for adding the secondary storyline of resolving the issues that separate Kate's parents. The Unlikely Santa by Leigh Michaels: This is a cute story, with a modern-day "Miracle on 34th Street" feel to it. Zack makes a wonderful Santa, and is the perfect man to get Brandi to lighten-up and get over her pridefulness. The ending was a bit drawn out, but all-in-all, it's a fun book to inspire the Christmas spirit and remind us that our there's more to life than our careers.
