It's against the law to buy alcohol in Ridge City. Jason Givens wants to change this. Newly divorced, the one-time Ridge City High valedictorian has returned home hell-bent on bringing an alcohol referendum to the voters. And now that his life has started to unravel, he's willing to employ unscrupulous methods to advance his cause. Before long he has blackmailed city councilman Harrison Wall, taken Harrison's rebellious son under his wing, and started a flirtation with Meredith Baker, a married woman whose father-in-law is not only a pastor but also the most passionate anti-alcohol crusader in Ridge City.
