Teddy Sunshine is a story about an unlikely hero in search of happiness. Teddy is a gentle teddy bear who finds himself in a landfill site on top of a mount of rubbish and broken things. His owner has thrown him away in favour of a new toy. Teddy feels sad and worthless - old, worn-out and of no use to anyone anymore. He is, however, a curious little bear and, inspired and uplifted by a butterfly's joyous flight, he decides to look for a new friend, thinking a new friend will make him happy. As he explores this new and alien landscape, he encounters cunning and deceitful Rat, vain and proud Magpie, selfish and self-serving Gull and, finally, clever and cold hearted Mouse. With each encounter, Teddy learns hard lessons about life and staying true to himself. He is confronted with the fundamental question: Do I need to deny myself to fit in? At this point, Teddy meets Butterfly, his spiritual guide, who tells him that he is ready to embark on a magical journey, a journey of self-discovery. Crossing a rainbow bridge, they enter an enchanted garden where someone special is waiting for Teddy. Here, through the use of a magical mirror, Teddy is shown who he really is, what he really looks like, and he learns how we can all make that discovery for ourselves.
