Tears of Baghdad

When American Sergeant Michael arrived in the Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier, he had abandoned his university studies and joined the army following a failed love affair with a fellow student. Michael believed in the American dream and American policy in the war on terror. He fought fierce battles in Iraq, becoming a war hero, but he never expected to fall in love again. This love was difficult, even impossible; he fell in love with an Iraqi girl named Fatima, whom he met by chance during a routine search of her family's home in Baghdad. Their relationship developed, and through their bond, we follow the daily political events inside Iraq, the military operations of the American army and intelligence, and real battles described in detail. The protagonist and his African American soldier friend, Johnny, uncover the deception and falsehoods behind US policy in its war on Iraq amid a series of thrilling events.

The story later shifts to a new level when Fatima is displaced to Damascus in Syria. Michael, having left the army due to an injury, begins a mission to find her. After a long absence, he meets her in Syria, and they are both shocked by the clash of civilizations with her family, a conflict that prevents their marriage because she is Muslim and he is Christian. Exciting events unfold, and love triumphs as they marry and move to America. The novel then delves into new, realistic, and human chapters inside the United States, with many thrilling events involving the protagonists.

"Michael's farewell to Fatima was tragic. He had never experienced such emotions before. He shook her hand with tears in his eyes, their gazes meeting, having always avoided revealing what was hidden. She tried to smile, her tears shimmering on her clear skin. He looked at her crying and thought the sky was weeping. In her tears, he saw all the tears shed in the war. In her eyes, he saw all the eyes of Baghdad weeping. She whispered to him, 'Thank you... I will never forget you, Michael.' He grasped her delicate hand, wishing he could embrace her and escape to the sky, to the stars. She gently pulled her hand away to avoid embarrassing her family with the emotional outpouring unfolding before them. She turned her back on him and climbed into the truck. Everyone got in and waved goodbye to him."
