Tears of a Rose

Tears of a Rose is the story of the fated love affair between young Macaulay and Akudo whose growing up in the embattled town of Amadi-Ama means they had to face the dilemma of conflicting moral demands of their society and the willingness to accept the consequences of the choices they had to make.
Macaulay, a curious person from childhood is inclined to uphold the moral tenets of his faith, and his encounter with 'His Majesty' in his long childhood dream becomes the most significant turning point in his life. That encounter changed his life forever, and he began to live an exemplary life of religiosity and moral rectitude. This lifestyle of innocence and abstinence was misinterpreted and rejected by Akudo his dear friend as she wanted nothing less than romantic, sensual, expressive intimacy with him and for which she was willing to do whatever it takes to make him change from his frigidity and consent to her amorous desires. But Akudo later realizes that it is an un-cultural thing for a girl to ask a guy out in Amad-Ama.
Kwame Rowland is expelled from school for forming a secrete cult (the Black Daggers). But Beatrice Akpan, his girlfriend, is in doubt of Kwame's involvement in cultism and goes in search of him but when the finally meets him in his house at Abulo-Ama, she gets the beating of her life for a sin she never committed with Macaulay. Akudo, a pretty young lady from a poor home who makes a living selling vegetables at the evening market square in Amadi-Ama is lured to the back of the market in the cover of the night by a devilish lad sent by Kwame Rowland and the most vicious members of the Black Daggers. There, she is beating, gang raped and left to die.
