Mona was a woman born with two strikes against her. Growing up as a welfare kid with no one to look up to or show her the way, she abandons her dreams of a higher education. Unduly influenced by her family and friends, Mona soon finds herself married to an abusive man. After her divorce, she fares no better, leaping from one strangers bed to anotherall in a desperate search for love and a sense of identity. But when the specter of AIDS looms before her, she knows she must choose between her past and the very real possibility of a brand new life. As the tears streamed down her face, she wondered why life was so unfair. All she wanted was someone to love her. She began to cry even harder. She could not stand to look at the person in the mirror any longer. It appeared as though the face from the mirror was now mocking her. It was calling her a fool for being stupid and putting her life at risk. Suddenly, Mona realized that she did not like the reflection of the person staring back at her.
