An adventure set in the Maya World. Teal lives in an Institute with the other sisters. No new children have been born pure. No new candidates who are "considered." She leaves the mountain refuge and makes her way to the settlement on the plains. Her skills as a Eugenie healer are in demand. She becomes an important player in the power struggles of the region. Her goal, to rescue her Institute and retain the knowledge and practise of the sisters leads her into many adventures. Three groups of Eugenie sects exist in the Maya World, physical, mental and political.Many of the sects re-integrated into society, and most of the population knows little about them.Jim Maitland, is a product of the physical sect.Marie Galton is a product of the mental sect. A Ponspack is a device that, activated by lightning, produces constant and immense heat.Steam from ponspacks drives new machines including airships and submersibles. Maya trees are scattered throughout the world. Their powers are embraced by the major Zara and Bodhist religions. When an animal dies, if they are placed close to a Maya tree then a 'fruit' or pod grows from the tree. For humans, this pod is a red ball, the size of a cricket ball. The pod holds all the memories of the dead person but has no 'soul' no ambition.
