Incredible condition and fast delivery!

I received this textbook in absolute mint condition!! All of the pages are perfect and no writing was present in any of the text. The cover wasn't bent at all and best of all, I received this book FAST.

Teaching Young Children An Introduction 3rd Edition

The overall book is in excellent condition. However, when it was packed for shipping, the book cover somehow got stuck to the inside of the packing tape which messed up cover of the book a bit. Also, the first 3 pages were half torn out because of the pressure of the cover being stuck to the tape and with normal shipping movement. The textbook is great though. I think maybe some shipping peanuts or wrapping the book would be a good idea. Thanks.

Fine Book Despite The Price

Michael Henniger delivers a fourth edition of a textbook that joins the ranks of those that attempt to blend context, research, and teacher anecdotes. This book succeeds in the context and research sections, but falls slightly short due to its somewhat lackluster "Into Practice..." sections. The price may also scare off the typically, money-starving undergraduate. Divided into four units, Henniger's book predictably beins with a introduction to the general field, and moves into the foundational aspects of early childhood theory, play, guidance, parents/families, and community. The chapter on play is quite good because he succinctly details how a young teacher can facilitate play. Many books just stop at the theory. The third and fourth units are "organizing instruction" and "curriculum", respectfully. Even though both units are well written (especially Unit Three's chapter on planning the outside environment and Unit Four's chapter on using the creative arts), this book fails like many other early childhood textbooks by shortchanging the instructional aspects of early childhood teaching. Just learning theory and curriculum are not enough; a teacher needs deliberate techniques that he can lean on each day. These units should have been give a bit more weight. The contextual extras are also lacking. Henninger offers several "Into Practice..." sections that sound really nice, but they often have a tendency to be a little too high for at-risk children. Every once in a while, the book features a section on an early childhood issue (i.e. "Celebrating Diversity...Gay and Lesbian Families" on P. 184), but it fails to give more resources for further studying. A teacher needs thorough contextualized resources where he can find opposing viewpoints and a diversity of skill levels for children from diverse backgrounds and abilities. On the whole, I like this book despite its shortcomings. No textbook is perfect. Again, it is a little expensive, but for those Universities that can afford to offer it will not be disappointed.
