Useful insights and ideas

Having just finished my first semester teaching first year college students, I'm glad I have this resource and will certainly be using it more in the future. The authors summarize a lot of research related to how current first year students perceive themselves and education, and they suggest ways to develop courses to meet their instructional needs. They also include a lot of suggestions for different aspects of course organization and practice, from developing a syllabus to the first course meeting to assessments. Not everything will work in every situation, but there is enough variety that everyone is likely to find something to try out.
