This study focuses on the teaching of African oral translation through storytelling among first- and second-year secondary school students in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It highlights the importance of African oral literature as a means of preserving cultural values, identity, and traditional knowledge. Many learners face challenges in translating oral narratives due to linguistic and cultural gaps between local languages and the languages of instruction. In this context, storytelling emerges as an effective pedagogical approach. It encourages active learning, enhances comprehension of meaning, and develops students' linguistic, cultural, and communicative skills. The study demonstrates that the integration of African folktales, proverbs, and legends into translation activities helps learners better understand the sociocultural realities embedded in oral texts, while also increasing their motivation and creativity. In conclusion, storytelling is presented as a valuable teaching tool for improving the learning and teaching of African oral translation in the Congolese secondary school context.
