Training Circular (TC) 3-25.26 contains doctrine and training guidance on map reading and land navigation. Part One addresses map reading, and Part Two, land navigation. The appendixes include an introduction to orienteering and a discussion of several devices that can assist the Soldier in land navigation. This TC provides a standardized source document for Armywide reference on map reading and land navigation. It applies to every Soldier in the Army regardless of service branch, MOS, or rank. The primary target audience for this publication is the platoon leader and other leaders within a reconnaissance platoon. The secondary audience includes training developers involved in developing training support materials for professional military education (PME). This TC applies to the Active Army, the Army National Guard (ARNG)/Army National Guard of the United States (ARNGUS), and the United States Army Reserve (USAR) unless otherwise stated. The proponent for this publication is the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). The preparing agency is the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE).
