Taxonomy and floristic diversity of Bhopal

This book deals with the taxonomical studies of angiosperms of Bhopal. In this book 346 species under 83 families of angiosperms have been detailed. Of all the families collected 8 belong to monocots and dicots were represented by 75 families. Dicots were dominant in the area with 318 species followed by monocots with only 28 species. As far as genera are concerned dicots encompass 226 genera and monocots were represented by 20 genera. Life form class reveals that herbs with 160 species were dominant followed by trees 105 species, shrubs 52 species, climbers 22 species, grasses 7 species, undershrub's 2 species, twiner and creeper 1 species each. Al the species have been described with their scientific name, common name, local name, habit, synonyms, phenology, medicinal uses and voucher number. This book will serve as an important tool in the identification of the local flora and provides baseline for the conservation and sustainable use of plant resource in the country.
