Their audit vehicle does not run on diesel,
but on questions:
"Why don't you make a profit?"
"Why so many refunds?"
"This makes no sense."
"Why are you still operating if the business makes no profit?"
"I can go back ten years if I like."
"I can go even deeper, Mr Zuma."
"Where does your client park the company vehicle at night?
Produce the travel logbook - or I will tax him on a fringe benefit for private use."
It begins to feel less like an audit
and more like a commission of enquiry.
My brother.
My sister.
My colleague - fix your taxes.
Keep your records clean.
Retain your documents for the period prescribed by law.
Walk side by side with your accountant.
Wise people do not abandon their accountants.
He who has ears, let him listen.
He who chooses ignorance shall reap ignorance.
