giant's shoulder

When we don't need to learn independently, blindly, step by step from the beginning, it's as standing on the shoulders of giants. The simile is regularly used for things scientific, but seldom in the arts. Here it does apply.Anyone who's read other tatting instructions and had them just not *work*, and anyone who's been told that their attempt is "wrong" or "backward" by someone who can't communicate exactly what the problem had been, anyone who doesn't already know how and wants to learn, will profit from Auld's step-by-step illustrations for efficient tatting and from her wonderfully legible diagrams of tatting oopses.After reading several sources over a decade and only being able to produce knotted cordage, an evening with Auld's book left me able to create tatted lace. YMMV of course. :-)
