Taste of Death explains Christ's "failure" to return during the lifetimes of some of His generation and His disciples. As the story unfolds the meaning of Matthew 16:28, Mark 9:1, Matthew 10:23 and Matthew 24:34-35 becomes clear. From these scripture references critical scholars deny Christ because He prophesied a timely return that failed. Preterists, in seeming defense, claim Christ, fully or partially, returned in 70 A.D. when Roman legions conquered Jerusalem. Our story will prove to be different; as Joel, a fallen angel confined in hell, recruits three lost souls to form an educational group to spread fear through scriptural truth about the future coming of Christ and His judgment. Each soul brings a unique contribution: Dillon, who just died when the story begins; Naomi, who lived at the time of Christ; and Bert, a world, renown, scholar. A sonnet introduces Dillon. Joel then lectures Dillon with poetic conversation. Here are his first two stanzas:& ; & ; Dillon, I'm Joel, and yes, you're not on earth& ; Think of this abrupt change as your new birth& ; Your sorry soul will be never ending& ; Your life will see worse; I'm not pretending& ; Only with me will you have any worth& ; & ; My function is one of education& ; My focus is fear and trepidation& ; I hope I have not rudely frightened you& ; Sudden shock simply lacks my heightened view:& ; Fear is best learned from indoctrination & ; & ; Joel in later stanzas asks Dillon for his first impression of hell. Dialogue begins. & ; Dillon:& ; I was in suspension and not quite sure& ; If death or just a trance brought this starkness& ; I saw no prison gate or locked up door& ; Just ghosts moving like shadows in darkness& ; I have no body. My form is airy.& ; I feel ugly, lost, and solitary& ; Joel:& ; You're locked within a limitless prison& ; With those who failed to see Christ had risen& ; Despite direction or act of movement& ; Locating the gates finds no improvement& ; I navigate this hell with precision& ; & ; The entire work is in poetry. I hope you have enjoyed these examples.
