I had reservations reading the jacket cover

This is my least favorite book in the continuing saga- TX Cattleman's Club- Houston. Detective Zoe Warren was introduced as a background character seeking the villain in this series and quite frankly I had no interest in becoming further acquainted with her character. She is portrayed as a tough, no nonsense, career minded detective focused on apprehending the villain. Zoe is not flexible; she is unwilling to compromise. She most definitely was not in touch with her feelings- she does not allow them to deter her from her set goals. Cord Galicia was introduced in this edition of the tale; he and Zoe are wildly attracted to one another despite Cord's determination to avoid involvement with another police officer. Cord was an interesting character; loyal, dedicated to his heritage and the family ranch. He was vulnerable where Zoe was concerned, and quite a romantic! Odds are against a future for Zoe & Cord; the reader is kept in suspense through the conclusion of the tale. While I found the book pleasant enough- it just didn't appeal in the way the previous books in the series did. I read on to learn more about the villain behind the scenes. More is revealed; forensics are providing clues and the missing Willelm returns to face Ryder Currin unconsciously lending a clue as to the identity of Hamm's killer. The guilty party is beginning to reveal their motivation and reveal themselves. I'm looking forward to the final book in this saga.
