When Lee O'Brien flies to Tangaroa, planning to attend a surprise birthday party, the surprise turns on him. It's not just a birthday; it's a coming-of-age celebration, and unless he volunteers to participate, his best friend will violate the most universal taboo of all. The dilemma forces Lee to examine his core beliefs and question how two cultures can assign different right/wrong values to the same practice.
