These are the fruits of his meticulous scholarly inquiries and constitute a work that best reflects his academic journey. Many of the essays address topics to which he has long devoted attention, allowing him to delve deeply into complex matters while presenting them in an accessible manner, with especially thorough discussions. Of particular academic significance are his philological examinations of ancient medical texts and related difficult or ambiguous terms. The book contains more than 150 essays, divided into four sections: 1. "Gleaning Leaves in the Forest of Medicine" - This section draws on medically relevant figures or events from history, such as the story of Physician Qu treating Zhang Yi's back swelling, and Chunyu Yi not disobeying his teacher's instructions. Through these figures and events, the section analyzes and resolves questions, revealing the medical culture embedded within. 2. "The Wellspring Nourishes All Things" - This section approaches the history of medicine from the perspective of those outside the medical profession whose words or actions had unusual connections with medicine. It brings to light little-known medical events in history, ranging from discussions of statecraft and reflections on self-cultivation and life nurturing, to identifications of medical theories and passing mentions of trivial matters. 3. "Unveiling the Obscure in Medical Language" - This section selects difficult words and phrases from the Suwen (Plain Questions) and Lingshu (Spiritual Pivot), conducting philological and linguistic analyses. Falling within the scope of classical medical language studies, this section includes particularly insightful examinations of terms such as wan gao (菀稾) and nie pi (聂辟) in the Suwen, which hold significant academic value. 4. "Recalling the Past, Expressing Feelings" - This section comprises Professor Duan Yishan's writings about teachers, friends, and medical events he has experienced. It includes reminiscences of figures such as Qiu Peiran, expressing the author's genuine sentiments while also serving as important material for the history of medicine.** Most of the essays in this book are concise in length but profound in their discussions and substantial in content.
