"Tales with Tails" is a collection of five short stories in which four-legged companions play pivotal roles in each tale. Three of the stories are taken from my first collection, "It Goes On." One is taken from "Most Men," and yet another is new to this collection. Each story has twists and turns along the way. The ending will greet you in less than twenty minutes, but will stay with you long after you're done reading. The stories are written for animal lovers and mature readers. Themes of love, despair, hope, and joy are interspersed throughout. In "Abandoned," a mother Lab and her pups fight for survival after being abandoned in the North Carolina back country. A young couple's struggle to find happiness is aided by a lost spaniel in "A Christmas Found." Duke, a beloved family pet, tells his life story in first person in "Through His Eyes." In "The Imprisoned Artist," a Charlotte banker finds peace in the mountains with the help of Ranger, a yellow lab. "A Special Purpose" is the story of a guide dog trainer who struggles to turn over his star pupil to a new owner. If you love pets as I do, you'll love "Tales with Tails." -D.R. Shoultz
