Tales of Yesterday's Tomorrow

Tales of Yesterday's Tomorrow is an anthology containing Rich Winterstetter's previous science fiction works, the novellas The Foreign Effect and What Lies In Space as well as the short story Lupus Est and a brand new, previously unpublished short story Double Pepperoni.

The Foreign Effect:
Police officer Rebecca Gonzalez struggles to make ends meet between caring for her terminally ill mother and moonlighting at Sirona Corp, a company which - among other services - offers the possibility of permanently transferring your consciousness into a younger human host.
In a world where suicide is a crime these hosts are recruited from the "lucky" survivors and provide a limited resource pool for a rapidly growing customer base.
When her neighbor tries to commit suicide under mysterious circumstances, Rebecca is drawn into a conspiracy that threatens to unearth the enormous rift between the classes of society and the dangerously low value of human life.

Lupus Est:
Set in the same universe as "The Foreign Effect" this science fiction short story explores the origin of Doctor Curtis Locke and the Transfer process - marrying human consciousness to a technological AI construct.

What Lies In Space:
Kevin Ottenberg is part of a small, tight-knit crew on the interstellar freighter Dolos and spends most of his days travelling through space packed snuggly into his cryo pod.
When he is woken up as part of an automated maintenance routine and discovers a dead body on board the number of possible subjects is small.
Soon Kevin not only has to deal with the fact that one of the people he trusted the most seems to be a cold-blooded murderer, but that there is nowhere to run from a crew determined to find the black sheep among them.

Double Pepperoni:
Even if you spend most of your time in virtual, there is nothing like a fresh pizza in meat space. At least until you have to contact the delivery company's customer support. Some nightmares never change...
