Book Overview

Inspiring stories of Padre Pio's miracles, clairvoyance and bi-location.

Capuchin monk and spiritual leader, Padre Pio (1887-1968), is known and venerated throughout the world. Drawn by his stigmata (bodily wounds similar to those of the crucified Christ) and by his extraordinary powers of spiritual and physical healing, literally millions of people have made their way to his little monastery in Italy from every corner of the globe.

My favorite of all Padre Pio books!

These tales of humor, sadness and profound faith capture the man as well as the saint, and it is the one I would take to a desert isle--with Padre Pio's letters, of course! An organizer of the European resistance movements during World War II, and occasionally accused of being "too cerebral a Catholic," McCaffery was skeptical at first of the stories he'd heard of Padre Pio. But once he met him he was won over, and went on to become a sensitive and confidential friend of Pio, and to produce this marvelous book of the most touching and often very funny incidents. He knew Padre Pio from postwar on and describes all Pio's heroes of "those great days," who, with almost nothing to work with, but under the spell of a 'divine madness', built the magnificent hospital Padre Pio dreamed of for years. It became one of the greatest hospitals in Europe. Here are many wonderful stories of the miracles...Don't miss the Italian comedian, Carlo Campanini, declaring that he had the biggest cure of all from Padre Pio--he was cured of a "cancer of the soul!"
