In the meantime Hyr Stoutheart has created a mechanical being named Neolif, who he considers a daughter. On the Shard itself, Pad'maa meets a childhood friend she had thought long dead. Now a Vampire, Turned by Hyperion himself, the Human once known as Suzy Verurteilt is now Selene, a Daughter of Hyperion. However, unknown to anyone, three of the gods of smuggled themselves on their journey to Pruina, their mission? To find the long lost goddess of winter, Starnac, and bring her home. With these bold heroes, the undead stand no chance of victory... but that does not guarantee a swift victory. Darkness will fall into night. Champions will stand against the implacable night.
