Life in the Mountains

This collection of true stories about Big Zeke Garland provides a facinating insight into life in the mountains of East Tennessee in the early part of the 20th century. Big Zeke was not only a mountain man, but a mountain of a man to boot. During his career in law enforcement he was fair and firm, but played by the rules of the times, which were not as nice as they are today. This often meant having to deal with real desperados in a rough and tumble way, sometimes with deadly consequences. There is no doubt that this man's story would be good movie material. The writing is not professional, but that fact adds to the overall delight in reading stories compiled by Zeke's children and grandchildren.
