A REAL TREAT FOR BLACKHAWK FANS

HARVEY WITTENBERG FORMER PA ANNOUNCER FOR THE CHICAGO HOCKEY TEAM DOES A GREAT JOB WITH HIS STORIES, INSIGHT AND WIT IN THIS MUST HAVE BOOK FOR BLACKHAWK FANS OF THE 1960'S AND 70'S. I LIVE IN OHIO AND HAVE NEVER ATTENDED A BLACKHAWKS GAME LIVE. MY MEMORIES ARE THOSE FROM WATCHING ON TV WHENEVER THE HAWKS WERE ON GAME OF THE WEEK. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK NOTICE OF HULL AND MIKITA, THEY MADE ME A HOCKEY FAN. THIS BOOK DEALS MANY TIDBITS AND MEMORIES OF THIS HALLOWED FRANCHISE. I HOPE THEY WIN ANOTHER CUP SOMEDAY, IT HAS BEEN CLOSE TO 40 YEARS WITHOUT ONE. ANYWAY I HAVE READ MANY HOCKEY BOOKS OVER THE YEARS AND THIS IS ONE OF THE BETTER ONES. HARVERY DOES A GOOD JOB TAKING THE READER DOWN NOSTALGIA LANE. I HOPE HE DOES ANOTHER BOOK SOME DAY.

Quick fun read if you're a long time fan....

Harvey Wittenberg was so much a part of the old Chicago Stadium, this book was worth reading all his little behind the scenes stories. Who could forget that voice (public address announcer). I liked this book because there are so FEW books written about the Blackhawks, especially about the late 60's greats, Hull, Mikita, Esposito, etc. Great book if you're an old time fan!

The good old days

A nice insider look at an original six team. Wittenberg's voice is etched into the memory any Hawk fan who attended home games. His stories were enjoyable and a nice look at players and coaches many fans never had the chance to see. The books tends to be heavy on the 60's & 70's, it wouild have been nice to have more anecdotes from the late 80's & 90's. But it is sill enjoyable over all. Buy the book, read it and then give it to another fan.
