A great read! If you love the Big Thicket, this is for you!

I really enjoyed the book, it is historical, and very informative. I would reccomend it to all Big Thicket enthusists.

captures the often "forgotten" part of Texas

Abernethy, mainly through oral history, managed to capture a fleeting moment in Texas history just before it died out forever. He interviewed some of the last people still living as settlers in the Thicket as though the 20th century had never arrived. It's a real treasure of a book.
