In Olympia, Washington, there exists a last-resort real estate option known to the indigent, downtrodden, and afflicted-the black houses. Nothing good ever happens in these dwellings of despair and squalor. That's exactly where we find our down-on-her-luck protagonist, residing in a black house, struggling with addiction, failing to make ends meet, and mentally unraveling. The house has plans for her, just as it had its past occupants, which it reveals to her through supernatural echoes of its dark history. We made plans to go to Olympia for a very simple, and specific reason; to clear out Claire's storage unit and bring her stuff back to Canada. I guess I knew I was looking for something else, even if I hadn't come to terms with it. This is a story about grit and self-destruction. A story of idols, substance use, and love.
