Taking the High Road: A Roadmap for Us, and for Our Nation
The crossroads we face as a nation is not a matter of geography or policy; it is a matter of the soul. We have spent years digging the trenches of the "Low Road" so deep that we can no longer see the horizon. We have mistaken volume for conviction and outrage for righteousness. But as we have explored through the timeless wisdom of Philippians 4:8, there is an alternative to the exhaustion of our current age.
The High Road is not a path of compromise, but a path of character.
Taking the High Road does not mean you abandon your deeply held beliefs. It means you hold them with the hands of a healer rather than the fists of a fighter. It means you recognize that the person across the political aisle is not an obstacle to be removed, but a neighbor to be redeemed.
If we want to see a change in the "Future of our Union," we must first see a change in the "Furniture of our Minds." We cannot build a palace of peace using the bricks of bitterness.
The Man Follows. If you fill your mind with the True, you will walk with integrity. If you fill your mind with the Noble, you will walk with dignity. If you fill your mind with the Right, you will walk with justice. If you fill your mind with the Pure, you will walk with sincerity. If you fill your mind with the Lovely, you will walk with hope.
The High Road is steep, and it is often lonely. You will be criticized by the "Low Road" travelers on both sides who mistake your grace for weakness. But remember: the view from the High Road is clearer. It is from this height that we can see the "city on a hill" we were always meant to be.
Step out of the trenches. Look up. The High Road is waiting.
