Book Overview

An extraordinary book from outspoken business leader Anita Roddick that brings together some of the most prominent of authorities on globalisation (including Susan George, David Korten and Naomi Klein), taking a hard-hitting look at the myths and reality behind this phenomenon that affects us all, and showing us how we can all fight it.

This is an accessible black and white edition of the successful full colour book, at a lower price point.

Some of the leading names in the globalisation debate have contributed to the book, including Naomi Klein, Susan George and David Korten, as well as organisations and charities such as Greenpeace and the Rainforest Action Network.

The book deals with a diverse range of the issues surrounding globalisation, including human rights, the environment, international trade and finance, health, the food we eat and the clothes we wear.

Ultimately, this book is a call to action, showing how each and every one of us can take on the corporate giants and make a real difference.

'Globalisation is the most important change in the history of humankind, and the latest name for the conspiracy of the rich against the poor. It is the phenomenon most subject to the efforts of economists and statisticians, and the least understood and measured change in our time.' Anita Roddick

How to Get off your Bum and Make a Difference

Ms. Roddick has managed to put together some important issues, outstanding commentators, and good information design in one place with this book. I read it through from cover-to-cover (I seldom do this) and found myself both enlightened and inspired. I recommend it highly.

Words of Wisdom for a Changing World

Anita Roddick has put together a collection of essays from herself and other luminaries in "Take It Personally." Through the judicious use of statistics, images, and thoughtful prose, Ms. Roddick has made a creditable go at giving people practical advice on how to change things they disagree with in the world. Bravo!

phenomenal

This book is amazing. It's perfect for any activist office. There are about a dozen pages that I'd like to photocopy & post everywhere. & the text is a really good collection of quotes, facts, & perspectives. I strongly recommend everyone read this book!

Take it Personally or Bust

I am rating this book a 5, as it is a handy, compact summary of the biggest problems facing our globe and human race today. Ms. Roddick cannot cover everything on this earth, plus all of it's sources, but this is a valuable collection of material. (There are no footnotes because it is not an encyclopedia, but an eye-opener. If you want history, read a college text.) This book was designed to attrack people by it's creative looks, and to show people complex problems quickly in today's frantic and hurried world. Most of her claims I have heard before, either in college (as a recent Political Science graduate), or in a credible alternative news source. Any educated person with a sensible mind would find this book a beautiful collection of our most pressing issues. The point of the book is not to give you easy facts (if you want that, get a book like, "Idiot's Guide To Saving the Environment"), but it DOES list many helpful resources: web addresses, organizations, and places to start your own research of valuable information. There is simply too much information (too many things wrong) in the world to ever put it in one book. But this book is truly a good place to start changing the world.

Right On

Roddick is a businesswoman with the sense to know that responsible globalization is in the hands of businesses...and she helps give that responsibility to consumers. The color shots, brief esays, and commentary give any reader a sense of what is going on in the world, and what he/she can do about it. I do not agree that this is one more celebrity just writing a book...this is a businesswoman writing from experience, and giving that expereince to the reader. Roddick is using her status to educate, and I say bravo!
