The KMT's return to power radically changed the political environment for Taiwan's civil society and so we consider how social activists responded to this new political opportunity structure. The case chapters are written by authors from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and methodological approaches, and most of the chapters are based on extensive fieldwork. The book investigates the roots of the movements, their development trajectories and how best to asses their overall impact.
