Tailgate Safety Meetings: USA Special Edition TSM's: Tunneling

By Max McCabe

Keep the changing underground environment at the center of the safety conversation.

Tailgate Safety Meetings: USA Special Edition TSM's: Tunneling provides 45 meetings for underground construction, shaft, tunneling and support teams. Max McCabe brings together ground conditions, machinery, access and emergency arrangements to help supervisors prepare practical briefings for demanding work areas.

The collection covers face stability, temporary support, linings, tunnel boring machines and cutterhead interventions. Shafts, hoisting, underground vehicles and rail movements are considered alongside lifting, access, electrical systems and isolation.

Ventilation, gas monitoring, oxygen levels, silica, dust and diesel exhaust receive attention together with compressed-air work and blasting awareness. Water ingress, fire, refuge, evacuation and rescue topics help crews discuss how an incident underground may affect their routes and options. Noise, hot work, fatigue and handover connect the specialized hazards with routine tasks.

Inside you'll find:
- 45 structured meetings for supervisors and construction crews.
- Key learning points and practical discussion prompts.
- Knowledge-check questions with suggested answers.
- Attendance sheets to support briefing records.

Use the handbook before a new advance, a maintenance intervention or a change in work conditions. Link each talk to the project's ground-control plans, ventilation arrangements, work procedures and emergency instructions.

A working reference for contractors, engineers, supervisors and safety professionals who need clear, repeatable conversations about underground construction hazards.
