Great resource for students as well as teachers

I am a math tutor with 38 years of teaching experience. In my opinion, the series of math textbooks that is currently being used in my state (NJ) and elsewhere in the US leaves much to be desired. The contents of the books in that series are far too broad and do not contain nearly enough solved problems to serve as models for students before they attempt to solve problems on their own. Problem sets are often too short to provide ample practice for the average student and the series is designed so that calculators are needed for most numerical solutions. I believe this approach is creating a nation of dyscalculics and surely contributes to our low international ranking in mathematics (19th!!!) That is why I heartily recommend this edition (and/or the student edition) of Holt Algebra 2. This text presents most (if not all) topics in a coherent fashion with ample models that include step by step instructions. Most of the answers work out using manual calculations so the students can retrain themselves to do simple calculations by hand. The layout of the pages is very organized and does not distract the eye like so many of the newer texts. Since this particular edition of the book is a teacher's edition, the problem sets have a full answer key to all problems on the same page as the questions. This is a very good tool for students who need extra practice and who would use these answers responsibly. For those students who would not benefit from a book with a full answer key, the student of this textbook would be a better choice. This text is very good and I highly recommend it!
