Warm and fuzzy

Reading "T. Bear's Tale" aloud to children is a wonderful way to discuss the events of 9/11. As a teacher of 6 and 7 year olds in Manhattan, talking about 9/11 can be difficult. This hopeful and heartwarming book made my class understand ways others help people in need. After asking my students what they thought of the book, here are some responses. A 7 year old boy in my class said, "I liked this book because I like when people care for children...and I am a little kid." Another 7 year old boy said, "My favorite part was when Gruff got to be a fireman and I really liked the pictures."

A reassuring and inspiring tale

"T. Bear's Tale" is unique among accounts of the September 11 attack. It is both reassuring and inspiring. It reassures young readers that caring individuals, both adults and other children, will reach out to comfort them in times of crisis. And it inspires children and adults to have the courage to take action to aid others in difficulty. "T. Bear's Tale" is also cheerful and hopeful. Sue Lucarelli tells her story in a sensitive, direct and accessible style filled with optimism and gentle humor. Mirto Golino's illustrations are bright and inviting. As a clinical psychologist who has treated many 9/11 survivors, I heartily recommend "T. Bear's Tale."
