A systems analysis text which introduces fundamental methods of optimization, including graphical and numerical methods, and the principles of engineering economics to the planning, analysis, design, and management of civil engineering systems. Designed for undergraduates majoring in civil engineering. Includes practical problems.
This is the best reference for Systems Analysis, Economics and Linear Programming for engineers (and others) working on practical ("real") problems amongst the twenty or so I have read in the last twenty years. It also includes some non-linear analysis, which few engineers in practice will need, but which is occasionally useful. The descriptions are simple, clear and straight-forward and the examples are excellent. It does not include Karmarkar's revision to the Simplex method, but that is a minor inconvenience. Anyone involved in resource allocation should be familiar with the materials in this text. This is really a guide to the maximum use of limited resources.
