Impressive!

This book is a real gem. I read Martin Lings' biography of the Prophet Muhammad and was intrigued by the objectivity, depth of the sources as well as the language. I immediately ordered some other books by Lings including this one. I read this book twice. At first, it comes across as mere speculation as opposed to actual symbolism and archetype study. but, upon reflection and a little research (Lings speaks from various viewpoints Islamic, Christian and Hindu, etc.) Lings words resonate and things appear clearer. This book is advanced in the language as well as the examples put forth to explain different symbols. Topics explored by Lings include symbolism of colors, pairs, senses, songs, waters, mosques, cathedrals, language, trees, etc. An Excellent read!
