Sylvia is a young woman that has just discovered her mentor's death. In training to be a ranger, she had found a new life after the death of her family. Now, she discovers a plot that could tear her new life, as well as the world, apart. Excerpt: As expected, a feeling of outrage came from the room. Many voices shouted, their protests wanting to be heard. Rook's face became angry before he slammed a fist into the table with a shout, "Silence!" He turned a hostile gaze towards Sylvia, and his brow furrowed. "Tell me one reason why you shouldn't be thrown in my dungeon. Speak quickly, woman." Sylvia stood, one hand resting on David's shoulder to keep him seated. She realized in surprise how comforting it was to have contact with him, and she lifted her chin. "My people are not just human rangers, but elvish ones as well. Right now we are threatened by one of our own. Both the human realm and elvish realm are in danger. I set out on a quest one year ago to return the rangers to their rightful place as people to keep and ensure justice throughout the realms." The young woman's defiance against the king made many eyes in the hall narrow, but she did not budge an inch. "This has nothing to do with my people. I should throw your dead corpses out my door and then shut it." Rook spat, almost every dwarf in the hall echoing his sentiments. Sylvia laughed, amused by the thought. "You really think that will stop me? My people will cross, with or without your help." Sylvia gestured for the children to stand close to her, and she smiled as the dwarves stiffened. She had called their leader's bluff. Even if harm were to come to her and David, the dwarves possessed a fondness for children, even those not of their race. "You surely do not expect your fight to become ours?" Jarvish now spoke, his hand reaching for the battle-axe strapped across his back.
