Fantastic book and a great love story!

This not only takes you back in time but you really get to know Ruby and Wilhelm. The characterization of Wilhelm is what really makes it romantic.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

"Entreat me not to leave thee,...for whither thou goest;...thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God..."Sycamore Settlement is the first in a series of four books spanning the last hundred years in rural southern California.Wilhelm Morgan, a destitutue German immigrant, speaks awkward English and devotes every ounce of strength to his land and his small, motherless son, Morty. The first time Ruby sees his orderly well-built house, she is saddened by the lack of a woman's touch. Wilhelm falls in love with her but after his house burns down, he doesn't think he has anything to offer her. Not even promises. "My dreams lie burned in the ashes."Ruby helps him pick them up and dust them off. God's people show him the bounty of His love; his dream of a church come true; and once again he builds a house. No, a home. Wilhelm and Ruby are hand in hand together, hand in hand with the Lord.
