Wow, read the first page and you are already sucked in. Her writing is engaging, and heartfelt. Coming from a similar upbringing in a popular cult with a absent parent and an emotionally vacant parent, I identified with her need to be loved, and her need to be heard, not silenced. I was drawn to this book for its inspiration and similarities to my life. Self hatred is a common denominator that keeps narcissistic people from looking inside their hearts an seeing how truly retched they are, so they keep on making the same mistakes over and over again, causing us more pain. Whether their cruelty is intentional or not, we ultimately decide how we are treated. I recommend this book to any woman searching for sprirituality, truth, love and self respect. Thank you for sharing your triumph- Julie

Very well written with reflections from the present interwoven with tales of her past, Ms. Simon has exposed her life and travails not only as a catharsis for her own rebirth, but to help others to find the strength to persevere when overwhelming odds seem to attack from all sides . . . A book all women should read.

Swimming Upstream: A Resurrection is the autobiographical story of Shoshanah Simon, a young woman born in South Florida. Shoshanah's tumultuous adolescence upbringing by a widower father, her troubled marriage, and a battle with illness that made her turn her life around are all intimately and candidly presented. Ultimately a story of rebirth and hope, Swimming Upstream is a engaging and touching memoir.
