Mystery in the Bayou

The death of her father brings Rayenetta Dalcour back to Belle Rose, a small burrow in Baton Rouge, LA., but Rae is no longer the wild rebellious teenager who left 15 years ago. She is now a renowned blues guitarist and she lives her life with no excuses. Rae wants to clear her grandfather's name, fulfill her father's dream and then get out of Belle Rose. The battles between the tenants of the Back of the Bayou and the well-to-do St. Cyr and Jove families, have taken its toll on her. Plans to clear her Pawpaw's name are hampered by handsome Simon St. Cyr, who has links to her troubled past. While Simon is equally enthralled with Rae, he knows what they are trying to build will undoubtedly be tested if Rae delves into the past to solve a decades-old mystery of illicit love. Both are afraid that awakening ghosts from the past may place them on opposing sides.Ms. Emery has taken a familiar theme of the 'have and the have nots'and weaved a wonderful romantic mystery focusing on the love of family. The Bayou is an excellent setting for this beautiful love story with just a twist of gris-gris. I've read all of Lynn's books and this, like the others, makes you want to experience a piece of Louisiana. This spicy tale will warm the heart like a bowl of Nawlins' jambalaya. "Sweet Mystery" -- Filled with love and suspense!

"Sweet Mystery" is full of suspense as well as romance. Rae Dalcour is one tough lady. Not only is she spirited, but she is not afraid to take chances. Rae returns home after the death of her father. She remodels her father's business and the dance hall opens, but everything is not wine and roses. Rae is faced with living with trying to build her image, but also to ignore what's been said about her family for over 50 years. Rae returns to lots of "ghosts" from the past. She was known as "that wild Dalcour girl." After returing to Belle Rose, Rae is approached by Simon St. Cyr, who wants to purchase a part of the Dalcour land. Simon is not only a businessman, but the St. Cyr family is part of the age old mystery. Also, Simon was once married to Toya Jove, whose family is involved in the mystery too. Rae and Simon are attracted to each other and sparks fly. Rae not only opens the dance hall, but Rae hires a detective to look into the disappearance of her grandfather, Vincent Dalcour and Henry Jove's wife. However, the mystery of the past entangles the present and Rae and Simon love is mixed in with it.Ms. Emery has written another book that keeps the reader turning the pages. It is a good book.

Sweet Mystery is the latest from Lynn Emery, who writes captivating, page-turning African-American romances. Her books really capture the culture and history of Louisiana, as well as spin interesting tales and steamy romances, and Sweet Mystery is no different. I hated putting it down. If you like Louisiana bayou stories, especially ones dealing with black Creoles and the unique culture surrounding them, don't miss Sweet Mystery.

When Raenette Dalcour comes home to Belle Rose, Louisana to bury her father she is not at first prepared to tackle her grandfather's disapperance 50 years ago nor prove to the town that the Dalcours are upstanding citizens deserving of the town's respect. But that is what she has to prove when the circumstances of the disapperance of her grandfather and her enemy's grandmother becomes the focal point of the town. When she meets Simon St. Cyr sparks fly and the feud the Dalcours had with the Joves and the St. Cyrs becoems a focal point. Simon wants Raenette and he won't let old garbage stop him from pursuing her. Of course he has to contend with his ex-wife, Tanya Jove and the rest of the grudge-bearing town. Raenette opens a dance-hall and uses her musician influences to help bring tourism and prosperity to Belle Rose. And then all the trouble begins. Who is trying to sabotage her? This flavor is rich with the flavor or the bayou. You can almost taste the oyster and shrimp po' boys. Ms. Emery has captured the style and language of the people of this region with French and Creole phrases and mannerisms. My favorite new repsonse to something negative is now "Pooh ya!. There are plenty of stories relating to the Cajuns of Southwest Louisians, but rarely do we hear about the French-speaking black Creoles of that area. I hop to see more stories of this nature.
