Swannekins en Wilden (Europeans and Native-Americans) is the story of the clash of cultures that occurred in the Hudson River Valley of present-day New York State (then New Netherlands), in a region called the Esopus (largely present-day Duchess County), a sometimes bloody conflict which had a significant impact on both parties involved, particularly the Native Americans who were inevitably forced to cede territory to the newcomers and to have their traditional way of life changed forever.
