Sonya, Jim, Alyssa and Celia continue their voyage west in search of a super plankton that they can use to re-oxygenate the world. On their passage west they sail they sail along the intertropical convergence zone exploring isolated islands and costal cities including the historically beautiful city of Cartagena, Columbia. With a successful salvage of the container ship Triumph, life for Sonya has taken a remarkable change that has brings her the respect of the other senior elders of the Triads. The wealth inspires her to start businesses herself which for the most part is legal. The team rescue a young girl after her fathers yacht is run down by a fuel tanker that is not under command. Sonya agrees to adopt the girl and Alyssa accepts her as her sister. The team negotiate the Panama canal entering the Pacific Ocean where they stop at Panama city. While there they unknowingly meet the mother of Xiaoping's illegitimate son. They set sail for the Galapagos islands with less than favourable weather which challenges the teams abilities. Sonya's new help Master Sergeant Ethan discovers a missing submarine form the 1980's while checking out security on the first island that Cara is destined for. Chang recovers from his injuries and re-joins Cara as Sonya's personal body guard just in time to help Sonya deal with the deceitful Chen.
